This Saturday: Kid+1, & Oil Pastel Workshop!

We’re looking forward to an active Saturday schedule this week!

Starting at 10am we’ll have our popular Kid+1=Fun! activity geared towards younger artists and the adult of their choice. $10 includes all materials, and 2 kids from the same family are $15.


We’re offering our first Oil Pastel workshop this Saturday, too! Oil Pastels are a great drawing medium that retain many of the great traits of oil painting. Participants will learn and experiment with different techniques for oil pastels, and will complete a project during this workshop. $20 includes all materials. Workshop begins at 12 noon, this Saturday April 12th!

This Saturday: LIVE MUSIC with Quinton Cockrell, and Image Transfer workshop!

We’ve saved some great music for our last weekend of March: Quinton Cockrell will be performing jazz and pop standards from the 20s-70s for us tomorrow night! This is a great evening out for anyone who loves good music, so please join us! 7:30pm start, $8 or two for $15. As always, outside food and drink are welcome!


Earlier on Saturday, we’ll have a workshop on Image Transfer. Participants will learn several innovative techniques to be able to transfer photographic images onto different surfaces, such as fabric, wood, tile, and fine art papers. You can combine multiple techniques together to create some really great effects! $20 includes all materials, and the workshop will begin at 1pm!

Upcoming Week at Studio 116!

We’re refreshed from our break and are looking forward to all of the great plans for the rest of March! Next weekend, March 22, we have a full day scheduled!

Kid+1=Fun! will start our day at 10am. This group is for young artists and their parents, and each session brings a new art-based activity for creative play. Lots of fun! $10 includes materials, $15 for two kids.

At noon, Amanda Trawick will be leading an Acrylic Painting Basics class. Acrylics are such a versatile paint medium: you can achieve effects similar to watercolor, or build them up thick like oil paint. She’ll cover everything you’ll need to know to get started, and participants will leave with a completed painting! $20 includes all materials, 12pm start.

And finally, our Saturday will end with one of our favorite events: OPEN MIC! This is a great opportunity to support and hear some of our area’s best talent. $5 admission, 7:30pm start. Interested in performing? Give Chris a call at 334-434-0540!

Mar 22 Workshop: Acrylic Painting! Artist Amanda Trawick leads this workshop. Participants will learn basic techniques using acrylic paint, and will complete a painting on canvas. No previous experience necessary. All materials included! Noon–2pm, $20

Mar 22 LIVE MUSIC: Open Mic! We love our Open Mic! events! Lots of great local talent, and always something new. Interested in performing? Contact us to participate! 7:30pm, $5

Mar 29 Workshop: Image Transfer! By request, a repeat of our popular Image Transfer workshop! We’ll explore ways to apply photographic images to different surfaces, including wood, tile, fabric and more! Limited seating. 1pm start, $20 includes all materials.

Mar 29 LIVE MUSIC: Quentin Cockrell So looking forward to Quentin’s performance! We specializes in standards from the 30s, 40s and 50s, and will be performing this time with keyboardist extraordinaire John Jinright! Great evening out, don’t miss it! 7:30pm, $8/two for $15, students $5

This Weekend: Empty Bowls and Movie Night!

This Saturday from 10am-2pm Studio 116 will be hosting Empty Bowls. This is such a great program: participants will learn to make bowls using stoneware clay, and these bowls will be auctioned (along with a meal of soup) to support area food banks. Participation is free! Come by during our 10am-2pm hours in order to join in. We’re working with the Art Department from Pike County High School, and the Salvation Army. Dates will follow about the meal/bowl auction. Read here about last year’s event~

And on Sunday evening we’ll be showing a movie! Movie will start at 7pm, and is free and open to the public. The movie is Illuminata, which is a romantic comedy starring John Turturro, Beverly D’Angelo, Susan Sarandon and Christopher Walken. We’re showing the film for dramaturgy students at Troy University, and you can read about it here.

Saturday Feb 22, 10am: Kid+1=Fun! This activity is designed for our younger artists, who can create something amazing with the help of the adult of their choice. Amanda Trawick will lead this workshop. Cost is $10, which includes all materials. Happen to have a couple of young artists in your life? Bring them both: $15 for two kids from the same family.


Saturday evening: Mayview Road comes back to our stage! This combo originates out of Milledgeville, GA but has deep roots here in Pike County. Lots of wonderful original songwriting, gorgeous vocals and instrumentals. Concert starts at 7:30, and tickets are $8, two for $15, or $5 for students. Bonus: The Deal Sisters are the opening act! We’ve been blown away by their performances at many Open Mics!, and are looking forward to their set. Amazing!

Happy Valentine’s! Celebrate with us and Alonzo Russell!

Tonight: Alonzo Russell returns with classic soul and R&B! We’ve hosted Alonzo a couple of times before to very appreciative audiences, and are looking forward to a great night. He covers some great Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, and all other kinds of feel good songs!


Our concert will get started at 8pm, and tickets at $8/two for $15. Outside food and drink are welcome, and we’ve got table seating on a first-come basis. Great for an evening out with friends, or your main squeeze!

Saturday morning: We’re offering a Watercolor Basics workshop! Participants can expect to learn and practice lots of different watercolor techniques, and learn about materials and processes. All materials are included, and gallery artist Amanda Trawick will be leading. Join us at 10am Sat Feb 15 for this class!
