Summer Art Camps continue; Live Music with Lenny Trawick!

We had a great first week at camp! This afternoon we are preparing for our gallery event that is the capstone event for our campers: we’re putting all of the amazing things or artists made all week so that they can tell their parents, grandparents and friends all about them. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by between 4:30-6 to check it out!
Next week we have two more Summer Art Camps starting! This time our focus will be on the Sea, and things that you will find in and around it. Lots of great beach and water-themed projects coming up. We still have a couple of places available if your are looking for activities for your 5–12 year old. Our morning session runs from 10-noon for ages 5-9, and our afternoon session runs from 2-4pm for ages 8-12. Cost is $75 per child, or two siblings for $125, and this includes all materials! Give us a call at 334-268-3346 to reserve a spot.

We've got 2 more weeks of Summer Art Camp! Give us a call to register your 5–12 year old!

During our camps we’ll be taking our Saturday days off, but we’ve got some great Saturday evening music coming up soon: on Saturday June 21st Lenny Trawick will return with a great evening of New Orlean’s style Jazz and Blues. Opening for Lenny will be Kate and Kathleen Deal—and they are amazing! Lenny said that pretty soon he’d be opening for them. ;-) It will be a great evening for anyone that loves live jazz and blues! Saturday June 21st, 7:30pm; $8/two for $15.

Another music event on our horizon is Saturday July 12th with Pastor Foster and the Messengers. We are so excited about this show! We hosted them in December of 2012, and have been trying to get them back ever since. They pretty actively perform along the coast, so we are glad to get them closer to home. Pastor Foster and the Messengers are a blues gospel group, with roots in the late 60s and 70s. This evening will be open admittance, with entry by donation. Mark your calendar now- you do not want to miss them! Saturday July 12th, 7:30pm; admission by donation.

Summer Camps and LiVe MuSiC!!!

Lots of planning has gone into our upcoming Summer Art Camps, so we’re really looking forward to getting started this coming Monday! This upcoming week the focus will be on Land: we’ll do lots of fun things related to dirt, bugs, plants and animals! Ages 5–12, and limited class size so do call to preregister. (334-268-4436)

For the week of June 16 we’ll be focusing on Sea: beaches, ocean, and all of the things you will find there. For our final week, starting on June 23rd, we’ll focus on Sky. The projects are designed for students to come to all 3 camps, if desired!

Our morning session will run from 10am-noon, and is for ages 5–9. Our afternoon session will run 2–4pm, and is for ages 8–12. Classes are Monday–Thursday, with a ‘gallery reception’ for friends and family to see what the young artists have been making all week!

As always, we have table seating, and outside food/drink are welcome!

Summer is Coming: Art Camps for Kids in June!

summerArtCamp-event

June is fast approaching, and we’re preparing lots of great kids’ art projects for our Summer Art Camps! Do you have or know of a young artist, between the ages of 5-12? They’d love to join us for one or all of these great day camps!

Classes are Monday–Thursday of each week (starting on June 9, June 16, and June 23).
Morning classes, from 10am–noon, are for ages 5–9.
Afternoon classes, from 2pm–4pm, are for ages 8–12.

Class size will range from 6–10 kids, and cost for the week is $75, which includes materials.
(Siblings? $125 for 2 kids!)

Each week we’ll have a different theme, and do a variety of 2D (painting/drawing related), and 3D (sculpture) projects that relate to that theme. (This means that your camper would get lots of variety, even if she attended all three weeks!)

Preregistration is required, and slots are available on a first come basis! We’re keeping the class size small so that we can focus on each child. If you’d like your young artist to participate, give us a call at 334-268-4436.

Themes, weeks of:
June 9 (land)—projects related animals and plants
June 16 (sea)—projects related to the beach/ocean
June 23 (sky)—projects related to the sky!

Coming Now: Lots of Live Music at Studio 116!

We’ve packed the coming week FULL of MUSIC!

But first, before we get to that, we’ll be hosting a workshop to create a Folded Origami-style Scrapbook! This fun scrapbook is a great way to keep track of favorite photos, drawings, or other memorabilia. It would make a great gift for Mother’s Day, for an upcoming graduation, or wedding! We’ll start at 10am on Saturday May 3rd, and $20 includes all materials.

On Saturday evening we’re looking forward to FIRE MOUNTAIN live on our stage! They are amazing to see live! We’ve got lots of great talent in the area, but what I especially love about this group is that 1) they are songwriters, so everything is original, 2) they are ambitious, with a new album coming out later this month, 3) most of their shows are out of town. They tour all over the region, so this concert is a chance to catch them locally. Read about their music and this concert (including Wilder Atkins, who will be opening this show) in this recent Troy Messenger article! Can’t wait! Concert is 7:30pm, Sat May 3rd, and tickets are $5 for students, or $8/two for $15.

On Tuesday evening we will be hosting Robby Gibson, with his solo Classical Guitar concert! Robby is faculty within the music department at Troy University. We’ve hosted his students before, and can’t wait to see him! An evening of great classical guitar, $5 admission—can’t beat it! 7:30pm, Tuesday May 6th!

Robby Gibson will present a classical guitar concert at Studio 116 on Tuesday April 29th, at 7:30pm!

BUT WAIT—THERE IS STILL MORE! On Saturday May 10th we’ll be hosting the popular soul-singing Alonzo Russell AND Jeff Singleton! This will be a GREAT feel-good night of classic soul and R&B! Alonzo has made quite a reputation with his Sam Cooke and Soul Legends concerts that we’ve hosted, and Jeff Singleton is another talent you’ll want to hear: he performed and recorded with the Commodores back in the early 80s! They are amazing! Make plans to join us on Saturday May 10, at 7:30pm for some more great live music!
